I put a new engine in my 98 SOHC sedan, and when I fired it up, I got code P1494 (Leak Detection Pump Switch Or Mechanical Fault ), so I'm thinking I don't have my vacuum hoses right. I have a FSM, Haynes, and have searched the forums, but I'm a bit confused by the diagrams, particularly around the EGR. I took some pictures, and would just like to verify that my connections are right.

First, I think this picture below is the source of my code. From the diagrams it looks like this hose marked with the arrow is supposed to go back to the fuel filler? I don't see any hoses to get it back there, so I'm thinking this was already missing from the car when I got it. Where abouts does it run/connect?


In this one, I just want to make sure I've got it hooked up right. I currently have it as the image shows. Is that right?


In this last one, I just want to make sure I've got it hooked up right. The diagrams all show the EGR with the hoses coming from different sides, but it looks to me like they kind of both come out the front. One is larger, one is smaller. Is this right?

If you have a Leak Detection Pump on your evap canister (look for wiring attached part), then that vacuum hose that is not connected to anything comes from the LDP and should be attached to the vacuum T on the intake manifold that also goes to the power brake booster vacuum.
The vacuum hose on the purge solenoid goes to the throttle body.

I had accidentally posted the 2nd picture twice, instead of showing the thing over by the EGR stuff. I just edited to fix the picture. If you could check that last pic again, I would really appreaciate it.

There is a better vacuum hose routing diagram in the FSM p. 25-15. I'd post a pic, but my PC with the .pdf FSM won't boot.

Look under the bumper for that LDP. This has nothing to do with the EGR stuff.

Does it matter if I connect it to the intake vs. the TB? I figured they would be the same.

I do not think they are the same. It may be a subtle difference in vacuum. Back when cars had carburetors, there were different places all over with vacuum ports. I just looked at my car and that is how it is hooked up.
