Not necessarily dealer-only, but that would be the safest bet for a durable and well-fitting O-ring.

water pump inlet o ring (install question)

Postby Dain Bramage » Mon Feb 23, 2009 7:25 am

question about installation:

is this o ring pressed in while on the inlet tube or is it pressed in from the water pump side?

It goes on the inlet tube, and then presses into the block. It is a VERY tight fit, and takes some force to get it to seat. I'll admit, I used a rubber mallet to tap it in.

O ring goes on the inlet tube along with just a little RTV on the
seal to act as a lubricant. Never use grease or any petrol. base
lube. make sure inlet housing is clean of debris and oxidation.
If you do this the tube will go in much easier and ensure a durable
seal.

FSM called for a little coolant on the ring (makes sense since it has lubrication properties), worked fine for me.

That's what she said....

I always just took a little coolant and put it on the o-ring before installation. Then just pressed and rotated at the same time (like someone already mentioned). It's still kind of a pain to get in, but it works. I have a brand new o-ring for a 2.4 inlet, I'm not sure if it's the same as the 2.0
