'98 Expresso and the VAC controller seems to be non functioning in REC Mode (no tension as i turn switch and no increase of fan noise). Before I go in and pull the dash pad does anyone know if the control is pneumatic or a rod that controls the blend door.

1997 was the changeover year.

Early models had the mechanical link to move the recirc knob back to fresh when defrost was selected and customers griped like cracy about the knob moving on it's own.

The vacuum design has no tension on the knob. It only pushes against a vacuum switch to operate the recirc door.

Pull the glove box and the control panel and the entire system is accessable w/o pulling the dash top.
