Quick question Mike, for the cores you need for the SOHC intakes, is there a preference (ASIDE from a Magnum intake?). Just curious so I'll be ready with a decent core to ship to you once you're all caught up.

an aluminum sohc core is what would be needed.

well not to be an *a#S!d^f* but.......... thanks for sharing  if anything they should be higher. whats the average custom fab rate??? 80.00 an hour? a base intake takes me about 8 hours to make so that 460.00 right there.......... u want one with everything done to it then ur up around 12 hours so thats 960.00. then add in machine work and material (not a whole lot but still). my manifolds are very reasonably priced.......... oh and i dont need ur car to make it either

mike

oh yeah................. bump for ported indy pics at the bottom of the picture post on page 1.

Figured I would make a post aboutt he 90-less lower prototype I got from AMM. I haven't put it on yet but here are some pics of it with an unmodified (and uncleaned) 58mm Caravan throttle body. The 58 is just a tad smaller then the pipe so a 60mm would be a perfect fit.

I'm very impressed with the quality. Only things I would change are the vacume fitting coming so far into the intake and the TB flange is a little too tall. Short of modifing the vacume fitting there really isn't any other option so its no big deal. Now for the TB flange, if it was little shorter it would allow the use of the SOHC TPS mounted upside down and make for cleaner wiring. Nothing a few minutes with a file can't fix.

yeah the hole drilled for the brake booster fitting was to big, tht was definitely my bad  thats why it protrudes so much. about the t-body plate............ well ill have to look into that one on the next one. thanks for the review though :)

What would flow better for an NA setup? One of those prototype plunums or a box intake?

ultimately you will be able to get more from a "box" manifold.

sorry but I did not catch the price for one of those intake manifolds for a 2gn. And those it bring all the fittings for the vacuum lines, to make the manifold pretty much plug-n-play??

Hey mike, that turbo manifold looks great! Could you possibly do something like a sidewinder-type manifold where the turbo sits over the trans?

Figured I would post an installed pic of Mike's 90-less lower.

Image

Since this is a prototype I will give some feed back about it. There are a few thing I would change. First is the TB flange as I said earlier. It gets in the way of having the TPS and IAC plugs facing toward the engine for a cleaner install. Also one of the lower corners stick out and make getting to the starter bolt a little harder. Second would be that one of the bolt holes had a bunch of weld around it. It took a ton of grinding to get the bolt to sit flat and make a good seal for the gasket. Third is the length of the tube. It needs to be about 3" shorter just to help fitment. I was hoping to mount my small battery low and my PDC right above it but the length prevented that.

General information you may want to know. I can't give any sort of idea about power since I changed so much at the same time. Only one heater hard line fits. The lower bottom and strait tube get in the way of the heater feed line. Also I couldn't get the dip-stick tube in the normal position. I might have if I had put it in before bolting on the manifold.

Thanks for the report, all that info will be taken into consideration when the next one is built.

as for the other guys well pricing starts at 350.00 for a basic intake manifold if a core is sent and im sure i could do a sidewinder but i would need a car to build it on.

Well, Mike here is my AMM manifold with candy apple powdercoat. Performance wise is definitely a two thumbs up, no loss of power at low rpm, possibly even a slight improvement. My scanguage reports a substantial gain in hp numbers, on the order of 15/20+ mid to upper rpm band. Install was relatively easy the only item I had to fab was the TB bracket as the lower half got in the way of the manifold so I took it to a machine shop in town and had them cut it for me. After that it was a downhill walk. Anyone who does'nt have one of these manifolds on their Neon is missing out. :good:

Yes I have the exact same AMM SOHC Intake Manifold, and I'm getting everything bolted to it and my only complaint is that the TB plate being square got in the way of the MPx TB, so cutting off the Square Corner off at the lower bottom corner would've been nice before hand. Other then that, no problems. Great welds, and can't wait to bolt it on the engine.

PM him, he'll get in touch with you. He's just getting through a move amongst other things from what he's told me. He's building an intake for me and he sent me a PM saying that.
