Hi
This is my first post to this forum and I need some tech support. I had to change the belt tensioner for the A/C and power steering pump. That went good.

However, after bleeding the power steering pump for 2 hrs, I still have lots of bubbles and the noise when turning the steering wheel left to right and back to the left to bleed the pump.

How long should it take to bleed the power steering pump? Can the reservoir connection to the pump suck in air? How about the hydrolic line that connects to the pump directly beneath the reservouir? Steering pumps are a new area for me to work on.

I appreciate any help you guys can offer. Thanks.

The FSM states that you are suppose to put ATF+4 fluid in there. Is that what you are putting in there?
Also if you are getting bubbles make sure your fluids are topped off correctly.

Yes, I put ATF 4 (purchased from a dodge stealership). I checked the fluid level and it's up to the cold line on the dipstick.

My problem is there still some foaming and bubbles. How longs does it take to bleed a neon power steering pump? I'm wondering if the pump is sucking in air somewhere around the pump or fluid reservoir.

Thanks for the reply.

It might be sucking in air. Those lines are at about 120psi if I remember right.

My impression of the procedure is:
Fill to the top, lift the front end and spin the steering wheel back and forth a few times, add and repeat as necessary.

Yes, I think it's sucking in air. I only disconnect the line that connects to the bottom of the power steering pump and the fluid reservoir.

If the reservoir is not 100% tight, can the power steering suck in air where the reservoir connects to the power steering pump or will it just suck air in through the power steering line that connects to the power steering pump? :dunno:

As you can tell, I'm definately not an expert with power steering pumps and I greatly appreciate your technical advice with this.

Thank you.

OK, I finally got the problem withthe sucking air solved. Looks like it was a torn/damaged O ring gasket on the line. I replaced the gasket and it's running like new with zero noise or air.

Thanks for the replies and guidance.
