Someone my step-father knows happens to be really good with working on neons. He said I could put an engine from a Dodge Intrepid in my neon. Would this work? Would I have to make new motor mounts? Anyone know what would be involved in this?
Thank you :)

that would be the 2.4 swap you hear so much about, unless he is referring to the newer 3.5...

I have a transmission from my 300m in my shop next to my neon motor, for *a#S!d^f* and gigglles I am going to see if the bell housing lines up. It would be difficult to make the 3.5 fit because they are mounted in the engine bay like a rwd motor.

The Intrepids came with a 2.7, 3.3, or 3.5 engine. All were V6's. The 2.4 was never available in the Intrepids. The Intreprids have zero in common with the Neon. None of the 3 engines that came in the Intrepid have ever been swapped into a Neon.

Great, thanks for the info :D
So, would it be possible to get the engine to swap if I made some custom motor mounts? I'm sure a SA ECM would probably be needed, but is there anything that would absolutely prevent this from being possible?

Oddly enough I don't think the 2.4 would even be able to fit in the Intrepids engine bay. It is 1 cylinder longer then any of the engine options and it has a tall timing cover on the front to interfer with the sloping hood.

2.4 bored and stroked to 2.7 with a big freakin' turbo on it.
What exactly do you want your car to do?

So, what's the largest/most powerful engine I can swap into a neon? you can make over 500HP with the engine in it now.

I remember seeing a 4-cylinder on Streetfire putting out 1000+Hp. That thing was sick. Anyway, if I can put out 500HP by upgrading mine, shouldn't I be able to get more out of a 2.4? Sorry for the noob questions, but I'm learning as I go, lol. I'm a computer engineer and I find pretty much anything that I can build, upgrade, and make fast to be fascinating, lol.

What exactly are you wanting your car to do? If you just want to beat stock Mustang GT's then throw a turbo on your current engine, tune it well, and you're there. If you want to build a 500hp Neon building the engine is the easy thing. Order a top and bottem rebuild kit for the 2.4 from Modernperformance and the engine is there. The hard part is everthing else. The fuel, chassis, engine control, and tuning.

Sorry for the vagueness Anyway, my goal is to get as much power out of it as I can while keeping it street-legal. I don't like standards, so I'm not aiming for a competition car. I'm more interested in building a very fast machine that I can still use to get my groceries

I'm doing this over time, so budget's not really an issue. I'll piece the engine together bit by bit with whatever $ I have, and once it's done, I'll swap it into my car. I don't have much of a choice, because I definitely can't afford to do it all at once. Anything I can do myself, I'll do. I don't like leaving my car in a stranger's care.
