i have been told by a couple srt4 guys around me that the msd coil is JUNK they burn out superfast and that i should just stick with the stocker, now as glamourus as the black factory coil pack is, is it worth it to give up the reliability of the stock for an aftermarket one such as the msd
or is this just speculation?

I haven't heard that they're junk, but the consensus seems to be that they don't really offer any improvement over stock.\
If you want one, get one, it'll be fine.

i am not expect to get any gains from it honeslty it doesn't run that much better than stock, i think its more of a dress up factor honsetly, a bling thing if you wish

More or less, however if your stock coil is toast I think a new MSD is cheaper than a new coil from the dealership if memory serves.

if you want the "bling" factor, why dont you just paint your coil pack red? unless you want the name as well.

I've had alot of SRT-4 guys tell me same thing, alot of bad things about MSD from them. Even with their plug wires.. I've seen it myself. Buddy put a new MSD pack & MSD wires on his car and it started to miss. So since then he just sticks with the factory stuff.
I have no complaints about the factory parts, not to mention they're very cheap!

A factory coil pack from the dealer is not cheaper than a MSD coil pack.

I've had an MSD coil pack for about 100k miles, never had a problem with it, but I don't have a turbo either.
I don't think he meant a new coil tho, Mike.

MSD coil packs work fine on naturally aspirated first gen Neons. If someone is having problems on a SRT it is probably because of the heat from a turbo.
A MSD on a NA Neon will work fine, just like a stocker.
Comparing your a Neon to a SRT in this application is apples to oranges because of the heat issues that come with owning a SRT.
Mike

True, but regardless... comparing a SRT to a regular Neon in this case is apples to oranges.
Sorry, I just think this is a bit ridiculous...

msd works... it's mainly the heat that kills them.

how about the newly released plasma spark plugs? They use a built-in capacitor to intensify ths spark, evidently.
I think they got good review in DSport, which is a magazine not known for bowing down to sponsor pressure. And one of the few that hasn't been absorbed into the Petersen publishing Blob.
100 bucks or so for a set. I figure I will try those one day. And some lower-resistance wires.

high resistance plug wires help keep RFI down, and ive heard that the resistor in plugs give the spark a little "push" across the gap
