My name is Matt, I have a 1989 Dodge Spirit that I have been working on for some time it was a 2.5 SOHC Turbo car but it is almost a 2.4 Dohc Turbo now. I wanted to build a beast of a sleeper, but still look good. This car has no radio, wipers, heat or a/c because I dont need that garbage in MI. It will have functioning pwr steering. I have big plans for the car and it should be running soon(well as soon as it gets warm again)
This project has been labor intensive as well as info intensive. I have learned many things about older TD's, neons, 2.4's, and SRT4's. Well I found most of my info for my setup on these sites:
http://forums.neons.org/
http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/index.php?
http://www.turbododge.com/forums/
http://www.srtforums.com/forums/index.php
I have modified almost everything on the car
Check it out!(I know that the camera/pics suck)

I put some new pics up of the trans because I got the diff ready and painted the case, nice and clean. I also finally got the Koni's coilover ready on the front and the big tires that barely clear the frame/fender, but they look to hit the trans when turned all the way to the right(spacers needed)

Very cool car!
I like it all except the atx, but that's just personal preference. Can't wait to see it running.

I'll put some more pics up here in a bit. I droped it in and had a few minor things to modify, like the Caravan front mount bracket didn't clear the SRT oil pan so I had to cut a notch in it. Also I had to flip the turbo 180* to have room for an air filter and have a better shot for the oil drain and exhaust.
Just have to finish the down pipe(need to get a tighter 3" bend to clear) and put the accessories on and such)

This is awesome. The wife and I were just talking about doing a 2.4L swap into our 87 Turbo Omni.

rb70383 wrote: SpeedEuphoria: Is it me or did you recess part of the firewall?
Yeah I cut it out and took all the stuff out from behind the dash. I had ~8" of room so I made a new one that sits ~7.5" back farther than stock. This was because I was planning on running this header. I had to curve it around the gas pedal so I have barely enough room to get my foot in there(I also melted the rubber under the pedal when it caught fire while I was welding it in, had to get a new one).
So far I would do a couple things differently, but thats life and I am still satisfied at this point. Thanks for all the complements and thanks to the few who have already done the swap and helped greatly w/ misc odds and ends. I learn fast and this is my 1st build, shoot the wheelwells and firewall was the 1st things I ever welded once I bought my welder.
well got the down pipe tacked in place and the dump needs another peice to turn it out under the car. Also hooked up the pwr steering and belt. Still got to modify things to get the alt and Indy intake to go on and get the IC pipes ran, I orderd a custom set of Magnecor wires that should be here Friday

well after getting all the relays hooked up and the LC-1 and LMA-3 hooked to the computer, finishing the plumbing ect..
IT Runs, I had to get a battery charger to keep the power up because the alt is not wired in yet and I have a small Odeyessey PC680 battery.
I still have lots to do, just wanted to get it started and idling(wanted to set the timing as well), let it warm up then then shut it down.
Now I can finalize the wiring, hook up the meth injection, boost controler, put the front clip back on, put the interior and seats in and get the 3" exhaust to fit over the rear axle and put the muffler on

Nice. OK a question: where did you get your plug wires. I'm looking at a Hybrid conversion, but not sure on where to get a set of neon ended plug wires.

monday wrote: such a nice engine bay and such a rats nest of wires? im sure you will clean them up....keep up the good work.
yeah I just wanted to make sure it ran, I have even more of a rats nest over on the pass side near teh battery because of all the relays and such. I will loom it all up after I get the wires the correct length. Then I have to get another dipstick and modify the throttle cable bracket(the hood wont go on untill I fix these). Put the rest back together outside and in(also have a little wiring to clean up inside)
But we finally got winter here, so I'm on hold to late March and should be done by April
I was just very happy to here the thing run after not driving it in over 3 years(lack of funds, then I went crazy and redid/modified everything)

Finally took her for a spin(well a couple)
Made sure the electronics were working good. Did a couple of datalogs while seating the rings. It has a high idle that I need to work on, the idle screw is all the way out, so not sure where to go next. Made sure the trans shifted fine, which it does. The map log isnt quite what I want yet(to compare w/ the SDS for tunning), have to get the voltage points for the 3 bar.
The wastegate spring is ~7psi(I think, its off ebay so you never know). It gets there fast and pulls good. I drove it how it sits in these pics to make sure things are working properly. Just have to put the front clip on and do some tiding/finishing to the interior.
I have yet to hook up the meth injection or the boost controller.
The exhaust is loud and I need to add another muffler in the middle.

Well it was supposed to be raining today w/ thunderstorms, but since it looks clear I went for a drive.
I'm finally making some progress, turned the boost up and it comes to life. Still have a 5psi spring in the wg, seems to hold steady @14psi. The meth kicks on @~12psi and pegs the wideband rich.
3.17FD and 245/45R17 Nitto Drag Radials start spinning when boost hits(not hard but there clawing at the pavement) then grip and its time to shift(6500 for now). I have like 32 psi in the tires for street driving. It gets up to 100mph pretty quick. My EGT's are a little high till the meth kicks on then drop at least 100deg. The A/F is rich, worked on that some and got it to just under 11:1 then an IC hose poped off and I went home.
At least I finally get to have some fun, now just need to drive around some more, lean it out a tad, add some timing back in and turn the wick up to 20psi.
Should be fun, I still have a smile on my face after 3years w/o boost. I need to get to the track but the stupid Harley Davidson/Michigan Chopper Fest is there this weekend.
