Ive had 5 Neons previous to this one, but finally decided to start a project log for a car... I got this car a couple months ago, so I'm a little behind on the log but I'll try to keep it updated. When I got the car it already had a SRT-4 turbofold, intercooler, lines, downpipe & all that installed and was driving. Just no intercooler piping. Came with: All the turbo stuff 10.5:1 pistons Mustang 24# injectors Dynomax exhaust and muffler Mopar short shifter Iceman intake & battery tray 23mm sway bars Mopar XXtra high rate springs SRT cams 52mm throttle body Moroso oil pan Crane Firewires Mopar egr block off PT cruiser clutch I put a new hood, trunk lid & sport rims on it.. Later on I put a Mopar ECU, front & rear strut bars, Kirk longtube header. For some reason the previous owner took out all the carpet. It has since then been Rhinolined. I installed a set of 10k HID's and polished the Sport rims. I installed a set of Crane #12 cams, Fidanza cam gears, Deyeme solid mounts, AFX bobble strut.

Picture from out at the track.
With everything done to the car it only runs a 9.7 in the 1/8th.
Decided to paint the roof black.
I also installed a set of black R/T rims, painted the calipers red and painted the fog lights yellow.
Still need to find a plain red hood & wingless trunk.
I have a port & polished intake manifold, Hondata intake gasket & 60mm throttle body waiting to be installed. Also a SAFC2 is on the way.

I'll be repainting the entire car this weekend and doing alot of body work. I'll try my best to get pictures of that.
I removed all the window tinting today, 15% all the way around will be coming soon!
Also planning on installing a set of Skunk2 lowering springs to drop it down more. I'm also looking for a direct port nitrous setup.

I just keep looking at the old pics and thinking how great it looked. IMO it looked a LOT better with the red/striped roof. but once again; your car...
Valve cover looks sweet though and yellow fogs will be dope.

Ehhh, I'm torn on the stripes really. I like them but I also like the black top. I think it makes it look a little sportier, I need to get some new pictures. Looks alot better with the black rims.

Wait, so it had an SRT turbo with a no intercooler installed while running 10.5 slugs?
And as others said, wheres the turbo?

i dont see why not... its not like it would burst at low boost levels.

All the turbo stuff has been sold. Was running the iceman and a filter just to bring air into the motor. Was basically setup as the turbo being a header. Everything else was about the same, just had no intercooler piping.

Here's a couple kill stories....
Ran a Gran Prix GTP (supercharged) with "a smaller pulley and a tune". Figured it would be a good run for me.
Every run was about the same, all were from a dig...
I take him a car or two off the line and it stays that way. Doesn't start to creep up in me as we go faster like I'd expect. But was a good run non the less.
Also ran a cocky V6 Mustang, put buses on em! Needless to say he was a little upset.
SRT-4 owner... Been trying to run this guy with a white stage1 for the past 2 weeks. "I'm not unleasing it tonight", "gotta run from a 40 roll", now it's just "no I'm not running tonight". Then another guy with a SRT, I walk-up to him I ask if he wants to run. He says "what do you got?" I say "the red neon over there, no spray, no turbo". He points to his Stage1 badge and says "you dont want none". I fire back with a "I see you wasted $350 on 10hp". He looks down kinda upset, so then he goes & looks at my car for a solid 30minutes. Says something about how "It looks like I did something to the pistons" Then he says "we're not allowed to race in this car club." I say "well if I go ask the president of the club if you're allowed to run and he's fine with it will you run?" and he just shrugs his shoulders. So I talked to the president I tell the guy who I want to run and he laughs since he knows my car and my past cars. "gives me the ok". Needless to say we never run, excuses.... I even offered $5 for gas money for him to run me. I just want to see how I stand against an almost stock SRT-4 and it seems to be the biggest hassle ever for me!!!! But I did find it extremely funny.
AND
VW 1.8t GTI with some bolt-ons.
1st run: Neither one of us got traction, I pulled maybe a 1/2 car on him. Then boost happened and he ran me down, put 2-3 cars on me by the end.
2nd run: Better launch for me, I pulled him off the line. I guess he missed 2nd.
3rd run: I got a good launch, I jumped infront of him by 1-2 cars. Then once again boost... Ran me down for a dead even tie.
4th run: I got a great launch, lead the whole way down. Started creeping on me towards the end of the race. I put 2-3 cars by the end of the stretch.
5th run: 20mph roll (of course boost will be king). I jumped a 1/2 car when we started. Went into 2nd and the clutch slipped horribly. End of story he got me hands down by 2-3 cars to 90mph in a roll.
The section of road we ran on was just over a 1/8th mile. Definately was a good run, I think I suprised him a bit.
After the first couple runs the driver of the VW said "you can turn your bottle off if you want". I looked at him and said "I dont have a bottle" and laughed.

Well, I got my SAFC installed this weekend. Also had to replace the alternater & radiator this weekend. My gauge cluster also still isn't working (cant figure out what's wrong still). Ontop of all that my car decides that it longer wants to start. I'm only getting spark to the 2/3 cylinders. Even after swapping coil packs & plug wires...........

Well I decided I'm going to turbo it instead of spray it.
These are all rough prices.
If I got turbo I can sell all this off my car:
Iceman intake/battery tray: $200
Kirk header: $150
Nitrous kit: $550
Injectors: $25
Mopar ecu: $150
Mopar XXtra high rate springs: $150
Total: $1225
I need:
SRT turbofold/wastegate: $250
I already have an intercooler.
Aftermarket downpipe: $100
Intercooler piping: $200
Lorenzo fuel rail: $100
RRFPR: $150
Map clamp: $30
Walbro fuel pump: $120
Boost gauge: $40
Already have 24# injectors.
Fuel return line: $20
Oil/water lines: $30
Blow-off valve: $70
Total: $1110
Not to mention I got a bunch of other stuff I need to sell.
Just my thinking....

I already have a SAFC in the car, same with a stock R/T ecu. I just ordered my map clamp. I have a stock srt-4 blow-off (if I have to use it), srt-4 intercooler and 24# injectors.
Just waiting to sell the nitrous & some other stuff before I start peicing together the rest of the turbo project.

You did buy a Iceman and a Mopar ecu from me. These are the ones from my personal car. The items I sent you were spares. You're all good man!
24lbs should be enough for now I think, not gonna be boosting too high. Can always upgrade in the future.

i've done it. i was at extremely unsafe fuel pressures (80+) PSI and i was only boosting to 6.5PSI this was with a SOHC and the 20G turbo.

What injectors should I be running for my setup then? Remember I wont be running a 20G, just the SRT setup. I'd prefer to not have to mod my fuel rail, so that kinda rules out the srt injectors.

You don't need to mod you're fuel rail for SRT injectors, you just cut down your intake manifold a little bit to allow for the shorter injectors to seat properly. Its a 5 minute job with any sort of blade like a 3" cutoff wheel.
I ran stock fuel system (walbro pump, no return line) on my SRT turbo and used the stage 1, 54# SRT injectors. I maxed them out at over 20 psi. Depending on how much boost you want to run, you can gauge around that. The stock SRT injectors should be enough to 15 psi or so, if I had to guess.

So you never ran a return line? I don't plan on boosting 29lbs on my setup. I just wanna get it running pretty descent. If I'm able to use my stocker fuel rail I'll do that.
So I guess I can take the Lorenzo fuel rail off my list for now and sell my 24# injectors and look for a set of SRT stage1 injectors. Right?

yes. but, with that said. when i tried to run srt stage ones on my car it took 10PSI of fuel pressure to get the car to idle at stoic. and no matter what i did it was too rich.
that was with the chill factory RRFPR and the stock SOHC PCM...
i would reccomend 36's

I plan on using a 2.4 block with JE 8.8:1 pistons. I may end-up using SRT-4 pistons/rods though. I've heard that the ARP main studs & head studs really aren't required. Do you see the need for them or is it a precautionary kinda thing? What do you think of running Crane #12 cams with boost?
I plan on just building the 2.4 block and puting my extra built 2.0 DOHC head when it's complete. But I'll be running the motor that's in the car right now on low boost til that motor is built.
So far I have or have already ordered:
SRT-4 intercooler
SRT-4 turbo/manifold
SRT-4 factory wastegate
oil/water lines
SRT-4 downpipe
intercooler piping
map clamp
Auto Meter oil pressure gauge
Auto Meter boost gauge
Auto Meter water temp gauge
RFL blow-off valve
Forward Motion block-off plate
Apex'i SAFC
Still Need:
exhaust manifold gasket
ARP exhaust manifold studs
aftermarket 3" downpipe
AGP wastegate
Walbro 255 fuel pump
AEM Uego wideband
Greddy turbo timer
catch can
fuel pressure regulator
injectors
oil/water lines with AN fittings
3 pod a-pillar cluster
On a side note I also purchased a Dremel rotary tool set. Used to have one, but not sure what happened to it. All I know is that I miss it!
I'm also thinking of picking up a Lorenzo fuel rail, just so it's easier to run the return line. Any inputs? Also what kind of fuel regulator should I be using?

i retract what i said about the injectors for your setup, i have no first hand experience in running big injectors with the stock PCM in a 2.4

Well I'll have the 2.0 motor in there and boosted while I'm building the 2.4 up. I'm gonna run SRT stage1 injectors I think. I'm still peicing it all together, but I think I got a pretty good list.
Picked up a 2 gauge a-pillar pod today and one of these:

It was like Christmas at work for me today! I recieved:
Forward Motion blow-off valve block off plate (anodized red).
Dremel rotary tool set.
map clamp.
Auto Meter boost & water temp gauges.
Rachet wrenches.
Intercooler piping.
And some other random stuff.
Also won an auction for a Hondata intake manifold heatshield gasket the other day. Got it for $39+shipping!
Still waiting on the turbofold & other stuff to show-up.

AGP wastegate - $110.00 Buy used or buy the higher rate spring and mod the stocker. Its like $5 and holds 14psi.MPX 3" o2 housing - $90.00 Not alot of gain for the $$. Kinda useless on the stock turbo.
3" downpipe - $150.00 Get this one and mod it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DODGE-NE ... enameZWDVW I used it on my first turbo neon. Just have to cut the end taper off. It fits nice..exhaust manifold gasket - $9.00
ARP exhaust manifold studs - $84.99 Use antiseize on the stockers. Save $90..lolForward Motion block-off plate - 13.99 ALREADY HAVE
intercooler piping - $55.00 ALREADY HAVE
Walbro 255 fuel pump - $100
map clamp - $20 ALREADY HAVE
Greddy turbo timer - $50 Heres a cheap one i can vouch for,, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-Turbo-Timer-s2000-rx7-fd-civic-si-crx-nsx-rsx-gsr-s_W0QQitemZ160194442872QQihZ006QQcategoryZ33742QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
catch can - $50 Make your own outta pvc and paint/hide it.. Works great
fuel pressure regulator - $130
injectors - Srt stage 0 or stage 1 injectors . Everone says you cant use stage 1's on a fpr system.. Well i do and they work fine.oil/water lines with AN fittings -
SRT-4 intercooler - $60.00 ALREADY HAVE
Apex'i SAFC - $100 ALREADY HAVE Sell it. Its useless on a turbo neon
Lorenzo fuel rail - $100 Waste of $$.. If you want bling send me your stocker and i will powdercoat it for free.2 gauge a-pillar pod - $30 ALREADY HAVE
2 gauge cluster pod - $35 ALREADY HAVE
Auto Meter Ultra-Lite Boost Gauge - $$57.70 ALREADY HAVE

Auto Meter Ultra-Lite oil pressure gauge - $52.85 ALREADY HAVE
AEM Uego wideband controller - $225.59

(or use SRT-4 pistons & rods) - $300.00
ARP main studs - $169.99 See pistons and rods..lolARP head studs - $104.99 Good investment but not needed. Stock head bolts have been proven very strong
port & polish head - $300.00
Crane titanium valve springs & retainers - $309.99 ALREADY HAVE

I've been fighting this no start problem for nearly a month ago...and I'm still losing.
I've replaced:
Engine harness
Starter
ECU
Coil pack
Plug wires
Disconnected SAFC
Still not getting spark to cylinders 2 & 3.
It drove perfectly to a friend's house, went to start it an hour later and this is what happens. It'll turnover all day long, just wont fire. I can hear the fuel pump prime right before I go to turn the key over. I really don't know what else to replace/look for! Anymore ideas?
If anyone that lives close to me thinks they can fix it, I welcome them to it. I'll gladly pay a fair amount to get this car fixed!!!
