Re: Safe boost limit for stock na 2.4

With an FMU, I would limit it to about 6-8psi. It'll still be a pretty fun car. When it comes to megasquirt, it can control fuel and ignition, so you get the proper fuel mixture plus a way to control ignition timing in and out of boost.

Re: 2.4 Caliber Srt into 1st gen Neon

Having dropped a 3.3L V6 into my 98 coupe, I only spent about $400 and had all the emissions equipment to pass the OBD2 emissions test. I fabricated pretty much everything. Cost me a lot of time but it was mostly for fun and a learning experience and I never actually ended up putting it on the road....

Re: A different take on a turbo manifold.

Being in Canada, with the current dollar exchange and duty fees, shipping and such, a $400 item will cost me $600-$700. If i stick with the 20G, I'll use the internal wastegate. If I go with the HX35, I'll add an external gate coming off the adapter tube and extending to just behind the ignition coil.

At least it'll be better than my ebay manifold. Didn't matter if its 15 or 25 psi. It ran the exact same times. http://sddimage.com/originals/sdd/speeddaddyebay//TM-SRT4-S-S3-38.jpg?refresh Notice the wastegate is actually 180 degrees opposite of exhaust flow. Similar idea as to what the V8 guys do with twin or single turbos. Below is my Ranger with a 97 5.0, ported GT40 heads and HO cam. The turbo is a TP38 from a Powerstroke. Starts making boost at around 2500rpm. Running 5psi currently because it needs a bigger fuel pump. http://i171.photobucket.com/al...

It's a mockup piece, if you're referring to the horizontal line near the O2 bung, its not a crack, but rather a casting mismatch. And yes, it does fit. It bring all of my turbos much tighter towards the cylinder head than any aftermarket manifold that I've ever seen and also much lower for cowl clea...

A different take on a turbo manifold.

After building a couple of turbocharged V8s utilizing stock manifolds, I have decided to give it a shot using a PT cruiser exhaust manifold. I had these parts laying around. Excuse the welds, this was done with a flux core welder. Hopefully, it works as cash is tight so I only really have enough to ...

Unfortunately, this car looks like is dead. Someone backed into it at my shop and put a massive dent right in the corner where the trunk lid and top of the tail light meet. With the amount of body work this thing needs (rust), I don't have the time to put into it. It will be parted out. Same thing h...

Re: can it be done? and run correctly?

The knock sense on Megasquirt has been around for years, but it is nowhere as fast or complex as the OEM SRT stuff. OEM PCMs nowadays can run the engine completely safe right at the ragged edge of detonation. This is how they can manage high HP while also keeping relatively high compression. I've be...

Mine did that once due to a water pump pulley chewing through a rad fan motor causing a short. This was on a RWD vehicle btw. Wiped the entire memory on the MS1 chip.

It is definitely not an 05 block if the crank trigger in closer to the front of the engine. There were some "prototype" blocks out there where there was a casting boss on both ends that could in theory accept both an NGC and a SBEC type crankshaft. I've seen one myself. However, I don't know where t...

I bet the compression will go way up. You will never ever have good compression if the cams aren't operating properly. That includes removing them completely.

Also regarding the cam magnet: You rotate it 90 degrees as you're looking at it from the rear of the engine (transmission side). I have had this issues with someone's car once. I would like to add one thing to the "crank will shoot out of the block" rumor. That engine was on a development dyno. It survived a total of 75+ hours of testing at full load. I have had a similar issue in my 04 SX. A 2001 ac bracket bolted up to my engine, but the holes for the compressor didn't line up. It seems 03+ (or something like that) used a revised bolt pattern.

This was on a 2.0 BTW.

I used the manifold in the link and tbh, an AGP would have worked better. The wastegate is setup at exactly 180 degrees from the flow direction of the exhaust. This causes the exhaust to stall right at the entry to the turbo. This would also cause boost creep to 22psi once a low restriction exhaust ...

I'd keep it conservative 6-8 psi. I had no problem doing 14psi on an 04 sohc bottom end with a dohc head and a stock srt turbo. I've always theorized that the same boost on a smaller turbo would give the similar stress on pistons and connecting rods on their power stroke as a bigger turbo. The only ...

The 2gn intake manifold with its' no 90 inlet and longer runners may help with low end power.

The absolute best way to increase torque is a 2.4 swap. But that's not easy and only cheap if you are well versed in 2.4 swaps.

That's correct but in that case, you would just use the head that comes with the 2.4 anyways. the 01+ newer style head has a different bolt pattern on the intake manifold side. All you do is drill 3 new holes in the 1gn intake manifold to make it fit.

I would test the fuel pressure first. Both with engine running and while it is cranking. No need to replace parts until you know it's the fuel system that is at fault. If it stays at full pressure while cranking, it's not a fuel pump issue.
