Overheating with A/C on, But...

Overheating with A/C on But...
when the car sits parked (still), motor running with the A/C on for hours and hours in blistering heat and the temp gauge never moves from where it normally sits, but, when i drive the car, after about 15-20 minutes, the temp gauge climbs and peaks out whether driving on regular roads or even on the highway...logically, i would think that when the car is cruising, air flow would help keep it cooler, but the opposite is happening, just sitting parked in 100 degree weather, the temp stays normal, but when driven, the temp climbs...if i turn off the A/C while driving, the temp goes back to normal.
any ideas what the heck is happening???

Dirty condensor. Dirty radiator. A lil low on antifreeze.

not sure what you mean by "dirty condensor", but will have to get that checked i guess, and the rad isnt dirty or damaged and antifreeeze level is also good.

if you mean the plastic piece/strip under the front bumper, yes, its original but its always been on the car and the overheating problem just started last year, never had this problem for the previous 4 years that i've owned the car.

May be the radiator clogged up some. My car and one of my buddies were getting hotting if running the A/C on the highway but would cool down it the A/C was turned off. We both have replaced the radiators since and they have never ran hot again.

Check to see if there are debris trapped between the radiator and condenser. Yes even though they are mounted side by side like two pieces of bread you'll be surprised by what can get stuck between them. The radiator on a ATX is also the transmission cooler and as the radiator sits behind the condenser when you have the A/C on the radiator is being fed 'preheated' air. With good airflow and proper cooling system function it's not a problem but you get a little air flow restriction and it can become a problem.

i had this problem. i stopped using the a/c and it started happening without the a/c on. at idle it was fine but would overheat when driving.
it turned out to be a bad rad. cap. and a hairline crack in the plastic part of the radiator. the crack wouldn't leak unless high pressure. the system couldn't pressurize and would overheat.
