The next enduro victim! 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.1 V6! Usually these cars don't do well but it was available! Just started on it tonight and the Enduro is Saturday! We aren't going crazy on it, just a quick gut and ratchet strap behind the seat

My dad's new neon to replace his ACR before winter hits! Actually, just to replace his ACR in general... I told him when he bought the ACR that I'd get him another neon if I could have his ACR so, this is what we found! It jumped time, so it will need a timing belt, water pump and head but other than that hopefully it will last him a few years!

The ACR will just sit in my backyard untill further notice, maybe someday I will put a cage in it and autoX it!

I present the perfect winter beater! Dented up, sketchy, broken pieces but it runs and is solid! I opened the door and hit it off the trailer on accident, then I remembered, it doesn't matter

Nope! Just got to replace the muffler, it's still the original one ( it's not loud, just rusty )! This is one of the nicer neons I've bought, aside from the cosmetic issues! The owner said it has a new alternator, new starter, new belts, newer tires and new brakes!

Once you get the plate transfered they give you 10 days to get it inspected.

I have to get my red neon, my dad's car and this inspected

Took it for another drive after fixing some small issues and it seems perfect! The CEL isn't even on   Defentily going to have to buy some winter tires for it, I had a very close call with a truck around a sharp curve today. I was going slow luckily when a truck came around a sharp corner and slid into my lane, I had to drive up over an embankment to avoid hitting him head on :negative:

Here are some pics! I didn't have a chance to clean the interior yet, but I did put in a nice non broken dash!

Oh, did I mention.... It has cruise and it actually works!! :yahoo:

A few coats of silver paint...

Glad I put my snows on last week. Had to take the interstate today, and didn't have any issues. There were quite a few cars, and tractor/trailer in the ditch. One tractor/trailer mangled a guardrail, the trailer was bent on all sides. and slightly buckled up in the middle.

I didn't see any sign of the tractor, only one of the rear drive axles with the tires still attached was sitting off to the side.

Once it starts to snow, you have to be really alert the first week or two until people remember they have to slow down....unless you are on RT 219 where people drive way too fast no matter what kind of weather. I'm sure you're going to see quite a few accident this winter while on your way to work and back home.

You'll want to put winter rated tires on all 4 corners.

Having summer tires on the rear may lead to the rear sliding out in a turn, if the tires do not grip as well as the front. There is much more than acceleration and braking traction in the snow/ice equation.

The more siping the better...

Four snow tires is a must. Last winter, I only had the front snow tires on one neon and I couldn't count how many times I did a 180. Traction is better but any sudden braking or slippery curve and I was spinning.
I almost never use cruise control if snow conditions are bad. But it sure is nice on long trips if the weather is right.

Oh cruise will defentily be used! ... ( Only if the conditions are appropriate like Case said ) One day I took my mom's car to work because my door was frozen shut, I used cruise the whole way and it is amazing how fast I got there! I guess because I wasent bouncing between 60-70 the whole time!

Last winter I only had two winter tires and it seemed alright but it was a pretty mild winter. I'm going to buy all 4 for my car now, I'll probaly just by my dad 2 winter tires for his 2gn he always just has two.

Usually I just go with the flow of traffic on 219 ( around 70mph ), otherwise you get ran over and its actually more dangerous to go the speed-limit  Of course if the weather is bad then everyone slows down. I remember one time I had to drive from Somerset to Altoona doing 35 the whole time :morning:

I put my new muffler on! It came off a R/T parts car I have and must have been recently replaced cause it's like new! The muffler that was on my car was still the original one

While doing all this we also got my dad's 2gn back together! He did the headgasket, timing belt water pump etc! It seems alright! Going to get both cars inspected in a few days...

I had another platinum bumper cover in my stash so I put it on! It's in better shape as far as the paint but it's by no means perfect so no loss...

When taking the bumper cover off I discovered this  must have hit a pole! ... Didn't really effect much, I might change it someday!

New muffler!

Finally cleaned the interior! The headliner material is missing, if I ever find a decent headliner I'll put it in but it's actually not terrible!

Lastly, engine bay pic! Its surprisingly untouched/ clean...

Cruise control on 2gn's will cut off if sufficient wheel spin is detected.

But whether or not it cuts off before the car goes out of control is another matter...

The only saving grace is front wheel drive.

Rear wheel drive, cruise control and slippery surfaces can make life exciting.

Actually cruise control need not be included with RWD.

Especially with posi-traction.

As far in as that is, I wonder if the hood and turn signal are original. Unless it was a short pole/object.

Or got shoved over enough to clear.

The headlights look to be original, but maybe not original to the car! I did realize the car has been repainted once, and the right rear door used to be red! It's defentily seen some stuff!

I would hope so!

That's my road pretty much each snow. :dunno:

With winter tires, I was pushing through snow in my 2gn that slid up my hood a few times. At 40 mph, it gets hairy trying to see. :pardon:

I figured I would get high centered like my dad's Omni. The snow under the car would lift the front tires off the pavement. But at least it always was able to reverse off it, scoop shovel a path in front, toss the shovel in the back, and blast ahead for a ways, then repeat.

I guess the lower hood line of the neon, and the Kaminari fascia kept the nose pushed down.

Just don't become overconfident with good tires. Mother Nature always wins....

Drove my neons for years in the snow....can't ever remember of getting one stuck and we seldom had winter tires on them...just all season tread. In fact they went better than some of the other vehicles we had with winter tires on the front. The only thing you have to be careful of is plowing through deep snow and getting too much under the front end. It will lift the tires off the ground and you'll end up going nowhere.... :nea:
My True Story:
My older sister/husband sent me a selfie of them taking a test ride in a newer Corvette. They posted, "Going for a joy ride in our "dream car"
I immediately posted back......" Why dream small, I can put you in the driver's seat of a neon for a fraction of the price".......

U-Pulls are like a box of Chocolates.......you never know what you're going to find...... ;)
