2002 stratus 2.4 engine swap to 2000 neon
2002 stratus 2.4 engine swap to 2000 neon
First
I had 2 PCMs :
SOHC of my old engine and the DOHC which comes with the 2.4 engine
What PCM should works to complete the swap ?
Second
Is there any other intake manifold can fit than the 2.0 DOHC ?

Re: 2002 stratus 2.4 engine swap to 2000 neon
Personally, I would be inclined to run the SOHC PCM that came on the car.
Keep in mind that the 'Pin-outs' on the Stratus PCM would be different.
Not to mention, the 2000 model year Neon, was the last year for the '4-wire' IAC, that was used on the 1st gen Neons.
Also, the plug & wiring for the MAP sensor is different on the 2000 model year. ( I don't know how that compares to the Stratus )

Re: 2002 stratus 2.4 engine swap to 2000 neon
The easiest IM would be the first gen 2.0 DOHC, with the 90º bend cut off and a tube welded on, "AKA the no 90 intake". It may need redrilled to fit the 2002 DOHC head though.
But I would have the tube welded at a slight angle, to match the 2gn set up. Or you could have a flange welded to direct bolt a different TB to it, (Ford or Jeep), and do away with the bellows set up. You could use the Jeep IAC adapter to either use on a Jeep TB, or make a remote mount for it. Nothing says it needs be attached to the TB to function.
I believe you need either the Jeep IAC motor, or pintle end to use the Jeep adapter. Modern made adapters for the 2000 MY IAC, but those are pretty tough to find now. And they are pretty bulky.
If you really want to get creative, you could use a plastic stratus IM, and cut the runners from the plenum, and plastic weld a plenum from ABS tube to fit between the head and radiator.
If you have access to a TIG or MIG, you could fab up a manifold using the aluminum Stratus IM. It might be tougher to do compared to the plastic one, and Plastic Weld epoxy. ABS tube can be had from Home Depot, and ABS flat plate can be had on eBay.

the 'Pin-outs' are the same in both PCMs but if I use the stratus PCM it will not work with the wiring harness of the dashboard inside the carNickKo wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 2:23 pm Personally, I would be inclined to run the SOHC PCM that came on the car.

Re: 2002 stratus 2.4 engine swap to 2000 neon
Even if the pinouts are the same (Technically they can't be)*, the issue shouldn't be with the cluster, as both would use the PCI Bus to control it.
*The pinouts should be different, based on:
2000 model year uses a 4 wire setup to control the stepper motor for the IAC.
2001 up is a 2 wire set up for the linear voltage solenoid IAC, so.... the pinouts should be very different as far as idle speed control.
Unless they used old tech on the Stratus, which I'm not sure they would, on a higher end model than the neon.
The idle speed (IAC) is the biggest issue with using a 2002 PCM. And if the MAP sensor is a also different style, that could also be a huge issue. Not sure how the MAP is different, as 2000 uses the same IM as 2001 and up. But I have never owned or seen a 2000 engine bay in stock form. The 2000 I do have is an empty shell.
If you used a 2001/2002 engine harness, and 2001 up throttle body, possible MAP, then you should be able to use the Stratus PCM. You will be rev limited to 6000 rpm though. That can be annoying, if you are used to going past 6000 rpm. The 2.4 bottom end in stock form probably shouldn't go past 6500ish anyways, but....
Granted, with the stock cams, it is going to begin to struggle before 6000 rpm.

So I will use my SOHC PCM but is it gonna work fine or the engine will struggle ?

Re: 2002 stratus 2.4 engine swap to 2000 neon
It will work fine, as long as you use the proper sized injectors. You can get away with the 21 lb injectors that most DOHC engines came with, If you swap to the 2001 up (nominal 58 psi)fuel pressure regulator. They cost about twice as much, or more than the 1995 o 2000 FPR (49 psi). Or you may need 24 lb injectors. I guess it depends if you can get the regulator, or the injectors cheaper.
I am using the 21 lb injectors, and an aftermarket stock style 58 psi FPR. It makes 63 psi, on the high end tolerance of spec. (+/- 5psi)
I ended up buying both injectors and FPR new, as the injectors that came with the engine were in bad shape from sitting for a while in the JY. It ran way lean. I eventually replaced the fuel pump too.
So be prepared for those costs that do arise.

Do I need to make injectors PINs rewiring if I use 21 lb injectors or 24 lb injectors ?

Most of these are EV6 connectors, so that part is plug and play. The older fat injectors were a different connector.
Here is a source if you need new ones. I have never had any issues with this vendor.

Re: 2002 stratus 2.4 engine swap to 2000 neon
So If I use the 24 lb injectors and leave the injectors wiring as is just swap the coil power wires only, is there any effect on the idle quality ?
