Im digging the lime green under the hood. I think it makes it pop out when u open the hood. I like that wing and its kewl it matches the car. Overall i think it looks good except for the tan lol

That wing....wow, did you lose a bet or something? :?

i agree with the "how is the hood scoop functional" questions!
looks to me like you've got a regular old homemade 3.0 CAI getting its air from the place most CAI's get it from and not from the hoodscoop like you've mentioned?!
just my .02cents, but except for the wing, the car looks good.

The hood scoop sits over an opening about 5" diameter. I am in the (protracted) process of fabricating a vacuum-formed plastic apparatus that will take incoming air to the throttle body. When that is worked out I plan to switch away from the 3.0 intake to a more "ram air" system. For the moment, the scoop is "functional" only in the sense that it does draw air. Still some work to be done on plumbing to take full advantage, I concede.
JKat wrote:i never heard of using the "ram air" effect on a Neon, but it sounds cool...can't wait to find out how it works :)
"Ram Air" is, I suppose, a Pontiac marketing term for a scoop that adds a little pressure to intake air when the car is traveling on the highway. That's all I mean.

Maddog short-throw shifter (his model #65-1) arrived yesterday. It is a well-designed, well-executed piece of work, that's for sure. The design and welds are true craftsmanship.

I can't wait to install it. Just gotta get my kids' Neons fixed first so I can get back to my own...

The Maddog STS is now installed. I love how this car shifts! I am still adjusting the rod brakes, so it is nice having the Gen2 console in the car because the boot lifts easily.

The tires are 215/45/17.
The grill material is from Menards. It is expanded metal lathe intended for keeping leaves out of rain gutters. About $3 for a 6" x 36" piece.

In general I think an engine should stand out from its surroundings, which in a black car like mine means light colors applied to the most prominent/important parts of the engine.

Re: 99 coupe is dead **crash photo**

Post by Miko » Mon Jan 18, 2010 7:43 am

Our 99 coupe has been destroyed (photo below).

We were in Florida on vacation, on the way home from the beach, traveling south on a 40 MPH county road, a warm, sunny, clear afternoon (Jan. 7). A woman driving north in a Honda Element turned left just in front of us, directly into our path. She claimed she didn't see us. We suspect she was on her cell phone. She was found at fault and issued a citation.

My wife and son were taken to the ER for x-rays; they both had soreness, stiffness, and mild bruises that have mostly healed.

The other driver's insurance company has acknowledged they will have to pay for the ER trip, car rental to get home, etc. We have not yet been contacted about compensation for our Neon. (Wish us well on those negotiations.) In addition to the crash damage, the firefighters tore off the right door and cut the right seatback off.

That is where I expect a dispute. Worst case, her company (USAA) will offer book value on a stock 1999 base coupe. The trouble is, the car had a lot of aftermarket parts (mods are listed on page 4 of this topic) and hundreds of hours of my unpaid time in it. I had replaced enough parts in that car that I felt I had a right to expect to drive it trouble-free for at least another 50 or 100K miles.

The ONLY way to get mods paid for is to have them listed explicity on YOUR car insurance policy. You may pay slightly higher rates but it's worth it in this case.

Be tough with them. The first offer they will really really low ball you. If they don't meet your satisfaction by the third conversation retain a attorney that specializes in personal injury suits and let him loose on them.

I had my pristine '57 Chevy 210 Business coupe totaled by a bread truck. The insurance company offerd me $500 "because it wasn't in the book". It "was too old". They stonewalled me and told me to take it or leave it. It was worth about $25,000 max. After the attoney was done with them I ended up with $38,000 and he got $8,000. I was in the adjusters office and I told him that "if you had half a brain I would have walked with $15,000. His comment was "win some, lose some. I win a lot more than I lose." I felt like throwing him out the third floor window....

Never ever never ever give the opposing insurance company any kind of break at all. NEVER NEVER NEVER............. Its YOUR money....

well what u could always do is buy the car back from your company for any where from $100-$1000, depending on how much they value the cars at, i think its 5-10% of the book value of the car. A few buddies of mine totalled there srt4s and bought them back for $1k just so they can take everything off there car and part it

What you say is very true when you are negotiating with your own insurance company, because you are negotiating within the terms of a contract. When negotiating with another driver's company, there is no contract in force.

OhioHomesteader, thanks for sharing your story. Like you, I might have to pull in an attorney later in the process. It will be a matter of biding my time and not settling too soon.

One good thing is that USAA is a very good insurance company, they covered a lady that pulled out in front of my wife. They worked with us very well and we were very happy.

Good luck, sucks it happened so far from home.
