HELP!!!!!!!!!! AUTO TRANNY

so i known for awhile my car has been throwing the tranny but lately its all the time it has this run away upshift and it wont shift into 3rd gear from 2nd gear when it warms up completely its shifts sometimes when i manualy shift it but now once it gets to 3 its ok till i stop at a stop light then for some reason it wont shift again does anybody know a fix to this i dont get why outta no where its doing this it used to just not shift right away then i could get i manualy and it shift fine all day long but as soon as i stop it stops shifting please any help is highly appreciated

What trans fluid have you been running? The tolerances in these trans are very tight and the wrong fluid can destroy them.

Borrow a copy of the FSM and go thru the trouble shooting of the trans. Good possibility its in need of a band adjustment.

to be honest i never had any problems with the tranny till not to long ago i checked cuz it started acting funny and it was a little low so i went and got some it was atf+4 so i dont know i m gonna try to change fluids once and go through the band adjustment its never been done i dont think that the filter ever has been changed do you think that could be part the problem cuz i was driving today and like i stop and it wont shift so i stopped again and tried hitting the gas and staying in the gas till it shifts and it shifted fine like nothing was wrong but it shifted kinda high for what it normaly is so idk ill hopefully get some cash and try and change fulids and filter

What brand of ATF+4 were you using? The cheap off brands may be questionable, the name brands are all probably OK.

might be the clutches slipping in the tranny i had one that did that it would never shift into 3 unless and wot or droped into nutral then drive after 2nd and then it good so bad that it felt like i had wheel hop every time i took off it shook the crap out of me go to a junk yard and pick a new one up for 200$ with 40k or less on it

i dont think it was cheap stuff im thinkin that its just going and time for a new one im kinda low on options

when my atx started acting weird (hanging in gear before upshifting, banging hard when it downshifted, etc), it wound up being the throttle valve lever sticking, apparently it had some rust built up on it...got it sanded, cleaned, oiled up and now it works perfectly again.

well i know somethings hanging up when you pull down the valve body does that drain all the rest of the fluid too im just wondering ive never taken one down before and wanna know what im getting myself into

Before dropping the trans pan, spray the throttle lever on top of the trans with a silicone lubricant and GENTLY move the lever back and forth, checking for freedom of movement.
If there's binding, then gradually apply more force and more lubricant till it frees up.

freeing up the sticking throttle valve lever fixed the problem in my car, no other work has been needed (fingers crossed...lol)

well i tried that just a few mins ago i took it all apart sprayed blaster on it worked it back and forth i even pulled the cables to see if they stick ive lubercated it all still the same thing its realy annoying

so can anybody tell me why it shifts fine after i manualy shift from 2nd to drive and run WOT it seems like it soent get enough pressure to shift unless its shifted manualy and wot its buggin the crap outta me

ok so im slow lol i did the spray blaster on the shift linkage and it shifts better but still hangs up when its cold so im gonna take all the linkage off and try and get deeper down cuz i know it fixed it partly just seems like it needs to be done again so ill update you guys thanks you very much for and valueble info i appareciate it alot

check the throttle valve "lever" very closely, if there's any rust or corrosion on it, the tranny will hang when trying to shift itself.

yea shes rusty there and still hangs up what to do

all that was done on my rusty TV lever was, it was abraded/sanded, then cleaned and oiled...been a few months now and the problem hasnt returned.
